New Classes for Autistic Children in
Newbury!
The benefits of involving children in music and dance have long been known. But for children with special needs, and especially autism, it can be even more valuable.
Now, autistic children in Newbury will have the chance to participate in a fun weekly music and movement session, tailored to their specific needs. The MAD Academy, who provide preschool children and their careers with lively singing and dancing classes, will be holding a class for autistic children every Saturday morning.
Around 90,000 children have some form of autistic spectrum disorder in the UK. The effects on each child can be very different, depending on the individual and on the degree of autism, but they often have social difficulties, limited communication skills and a restricted imagination.
Engaging in music and movement, in a structured and tailored way, can be extremely rewarding for children with forms of autism. A fun music class can provide a non-threatening environment for children, helping them to interact and become aware of others, build relationships, and practice simple things such as taking turns.
Similarly, expressing themselves through music and song also promotes their verbal and non-verbal communication. The varied instruments they get to explore encourages them to respond to external stimulus and helps them become more tolerant of noise, something many autistic children struggle with.
The 8 week course, which is targeted at children between the ages of 2 and 8, is due to start on 21st October and will run until 16th
December. For more information contact Trish on 0118 9770050.
