Profit From Child's Play by Linda Whitney
Trish Nawacki (right) has been a franchisee with MAD
Academy for six years.
'I took my daughter to one of its music and dancing sessions and realised it
would combine my love of music, teaching and business skills,' says Trish,
41, a former IT specialist who has two girls, Kerenza, nine, and Anna, five.
She now runs 24 classes a week in the Reading area.
'The best thing is passing on my gift for music and dance to wonderful
little people and knowing that things they learn in my class, like rhythm
and love of dance, will stay with them all their lives,' says Trish.
'Running my own business is hard work, and I can work around a family, but
if you want to start a franchise such as this, remember that there is more
to it than taking classes.
'Don't underestimate the time it takes to do marketing and administration,
especially in your first year.'
Helen Harrington, the trained singer and voice coach who founded MaD
academy, says: 'Our sessions nurture children's innate love for music and
dance by getting them actively participating in fun weekly sessions.'
Franchisees run classes in places such as local halls, sports centres and
nurseries, and you can earn extra income by selling MAD-branded merchandise
and running MAD parties.
Startup costs are £7,000 including training, musical instruments and props.
